Uniform Policy

Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are required to wear uniforms to school. Preschool and Pre-K students do not wear uniforms (they should wear play clothes every day).

Westlake Christian Academy requires uniforms for several reasons. Our desire is to help students develop the habit of dressing professionally, to build unity and minimize competition, and to allow students and teachers to focus on academics and spiritual growth rather than appearances.

Students should look professional for school. Uniform items should be clean, unfaded, free of rips and tears, and neat fitting.

Parents are responsible for ensuring that students are compliant with the school uniform policy. Please make every effort to purchase items that fall within the guidelines and check before your student leaves the house to make sure they are wearing uniform-approved items.

Uniform Guidelines

Uniform outerwear includes sweatshirts, sweaters, and fleeces. These items must be worn over a uniform-approved top.

Guidelines:

  • Sweatshirts
    • Pullover hoodie, full-zip hoodie, crewneck
    • Must have WCA logo or WCA spirit wear design
  • Fleece
    • Quarter-zip or full-zip with collar (no hood)
    • Solid navy
    • No visible brand logo, WCA logo optional
  • Sweaters
    • Crewneck, v-neck, cardigan, vest
    • Solid white or navy (no brand logo), WCA logo optional

Uniform tops include long-sleeve or short-sleeve shirts with a collar. 

Guidelines: 

  • Polo shirts
    • Cotton or athletic mesh/performance fabric
    • White, navy, light blue, royal blue
    • No visible brand logo, WCA logo optional
  • Button down shirts
    • White, navy, light blue, royal blue
    • No visible brand logo, WCA logo optional
  • Turtlenecks
    • White, navy, light blue, royal blue

Uniform bottoms include shorts, pants, skorts, and jumpers. 

Guidelines:

  • Pants
    • Navy or khaki
    • Neat-fitting
    • Not cargo style; back pockets are acceptable
  • Shorts
    • Navy or khaki
    • Length to student fingertip
    • Not cargo style; back pockets are acceptable
  • Skirts or Jumpers
    • Navy, khaki, or Hunter/Classic Plaid
    • Length to student fingertip
    • Elementary girls must wear shorts/leggings under skirts/jumpers at all times to allow for active play
  • Leggings
    • May only be worn under skirts and jumpers
    • Solid navy or white only

There is not a specific uniform shoe. However, all students should wear athletic shoes or crocs with a backstrap. No flip-flops or athletic slides. Gym shoes are required on PE days.

Purchasing Uniforms

Uniform items may be purchased from any retailer that sells items in the styles listed above. Some popular retailers are Target, Walmart, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Children’s Place, French Toast or Amazon.

A logo is not required on polos, but if you wish to purchase uniforms with a WCA logo, please visit our Land’s End school store. Our preferred school code is 900088386. If you create a Lands End account with WCA as your preferred school and add each student, you will be shown a page with pre-approved items that meet the school uniform code.

Uniform Outerwear: Westlake hosts a spirit wear store three times a year. Uniform hoodies and sweatshirts can be purchased through the spirit store. The spirit store is open in August, November, and February, which coincides with our three sports seasons.

Dollar Dress Down Day

On Fridays, students may participate in Dollar Dress Down Day to benefit Student Council and the Senior Mission Trip.

To participate, students should bring $1 to class or pay for the entire year online in advance. Students must still comply with our dress-down guidelines on Fridays and other dress down days. Learn more about dress down guidelines. 

Uniform FAQs

A: Solid color polos and fleeces without a logo are acceptable. Fleeces must have a collar (no fleece hoodies).

A: No, uniform tops and bottoms are available at many different retailers.

A: No, sweatshirts must be purchased from Land’s End or the WCA spirit store and feature a school logo or school team (available from Land’s End year-round or 3x/year from the WCA spirit store).

A: Anything tan, light tan or beige. Medium brown and green tones are not acceptable.

A: Back pockets are acceptable, as long as the pants/shorts are not cargo-style with pockets on the sides of the legs.

A: Yes, as long as the shirt is a solid color (no slub or heather) and doesn’t have a visible brand logo. Tech/flex pants and shorts are acceptable.

A: There are no specific shoes that are part of the uniform. Students should not wear flip-flops or athletic slides.  Crocs must be worn with the back strap. For elementary students, shoes should be safe to wear on the playground.  All students who take PE will need a separate pair of gym shoes for their locker (unless they only wear gym shoes to school).

A: Preschool and pre-k students should wear play clothes.

A: No, uniform tops should not have a visible brand logo.

 

A: When students are inside the building, they may only wear uniform-approved sweaters, fleeces, or sweatshirts over their uniform tops.

A: No, these styles of pants are not professional for school. Leggings may only be worn under skirts or jumpers.

A: Jeggings are “tight-fitting” and therefore do NOT meet the uniform requirements.
