Individualized Attention

Westlake Christian Academy has a Special Services Coordinator, who works with families and the local public school district to provide special services. Students with identified needs are evaluated on an individual basis to determine whether or not Westlake can adequately meet their needs. If you are wondering whether or not Westlake could meet the needs of your student, please contact our admissions staff. We would be happy to discuss your family’s unique needs.

IEP & 504 Plans

Westlake Christian Academy works with the local public school districts to identify students who have special needs. Through this identification process, an IEP or a 504 plan may be written to include what services a student would receive if they were in the public school system. During an IEP/504 plan meeting, Westlake staff will determine if the needs of the student can be met at Westlake through accommodations, modifications and interventions (if available).

Therapy

Students in grades K-8 who qualify for speech and language services may qualify to have 30 minutes per week of speech and language therapy provided by Grayslake D46 while attending Westlake. Currently, 30 minutes of speech and language therapy is the only service that is provided through IDEA proportionate share funds with Grayslake D46 for grades K–8. All other therapeutic needs must be met by private therapists.

Westlake works with families to determine the feasibility of private therapists providing services to students at the school. This could include ABA, OT, PT, Social Work, mental health counseling or behavioral therapy. These services would be provided at the expense of the parents or private insurance.

Response to Intervention (RTI)

If students have a significant educational gap in grades K-6, pull out response to intervention (RTI) services may be requested by teachers for reading and/or math. Eligibility is determined by informal and formal assessments/benchmarking. RTI is used to help close identified educational gaps. This service is currently included in the cost of tuition, but it is only provided as available.

English Language Learners (ELL)

Students who are multilingual may qualify for accommodations and modifications due to their English Language Learning needs. Westlake works with Grayslake D46 to provide ACCESS testing for students in grades K-8, and these students may qualify for English Learning services provided by the public school district (as available) while attending WCA. Accommodations and modifications for multilingual students may be provided within the classroom at all grade levels.
