History

The Waukegan Christian School was founded and incorporated as a non-profit educational organization in the spring of 1972 by a group of Christian parents. Their chief desire was to honor the Lord by providing a quality, Christ centered education for their children as an alternative to the public educational system.

The school started with fifty-five students and continued to grow, serving primarily eastern Lake County communities. In 1995, while meeting in a facility in Gurnee, the name of the school was changed to Westlake Christian Academy to emphasize the vision for a more regional institution with a strong academic focus to serve its spiritual mission.

For the first 29 years of its existence, the school occupied a number of leased facilities in Zion, Waukegan, and Gurnee. Since 2002, in order to serve all of Lake County, Westlake has been centrally located in Grayslake and settled in its own facility. The school reaches a great number of communities and has the opportunity to provide quality Christ-centered education to families throughout the county.
